About Marti Rounds

Marti’s vocation as a colorist is well represented in her earlier fabric/batik paintings.  She is known for painting interesting jewel tones in florals and beach life scenes. However, the company that produced the batik dyes closed and she had exhibit obligations. If she wanted to continue her one-man shows she needed to try another medium and this is what started her to try acrylics.  They had to complement the watercolor batiks, not compete against them. “I wanted to look like I was two completely different artists exhibiting together to also reach a wider audience”, yet be complementary to each other.

Marti’s semi-abstract style in most of her acrylics are bold and solid. She paints different themes but is most known for her retro art from the 1930’s archival photos of Waikiki surfing. These beach scenes and hula from the same period can be seen at the Hilton Hawaiian Beach Hotel’s Diamond Head Tower.

Marti has won several awards in juried art exhibits from The Windward Artists Guild and Association of Hawaii Artists. She is the president of the Windward Artist’s Guild.
